Men’s Capital League pre season results
Both CL and CLR started the new year with a pre season friendly against Weston Molonglo with mixed results on the scoreboard, but as two groups of players putting into real practice the new playing formations, the different style of play, alongside new potential team mates trialing for spots on the teams
CLR had several trialing players missing so great club spirit shone through with NPL U18s Coach Matt Selems offering, and several of his players volunteering, to fill in and help out. The scoreline of TUFC CLR 0-5 Westen flattered the opposition, as commented by one of the Westen coaching staff, saying a fair result may have been 2-0. Three of the goals were conceded by Tuggeranong mistakes mainly by trying new things, and that is what all pre season is all about!
Coach Sean Murphy walked away from the game please stating there was lots of good to take from the game including persisting to some game tactics but also lots to work on before April comes around and the start of the season.
Tuggeranong CL played a 4-4-2 formation in the first half with the Tuggies side endured a tough outfit from Weston Molonglo whose team had played a lot of football in the past. Early pressure almost saw a goal for Weston but quick reactions from the Tuggeranong goalkeeper kept the score even. Tuggeranong struggled to keep the ball for long periods of time but held on for a 0 – 0 scoreline at half time. Formation change to a 4-3-3 formation showed glimpses of better ball retention and had a goal disallowed midway through the half. Tuggeranong regrouped and in the last 15 mins, whilst fatigued, cracked the Weston defence twice with clinical finishing from Kris Robertson and Carl Hynes. In fact, if not for a brave bit of defending from one Weston playing putting his head in the way of a shot travelling at speed Tuggeranong could have scored a third.
Coach Tranter was happy with the performance of the team and again was thankful for support from the U18s, U20s and Premier League for allowing players to participate.
Whilst pre season games have started there is still opportunities for new players to come and train and show what they have got as you never know unless you give it a go!
Pre season games are coming think and fast now with several fixtures in the coming weeks which will be used to trial players for both CLR and CL.
