Men’s SL5 season review
It was a season of many highs and few lows for SL5. We came out of the blocks like we’d been shot out of a cannon. Following a successful preseason trip to Newcastle and sporting a brand new strip, we started season four wins from four outings.
As the season continued along and injuries started to mount results began to become less predictable, although never falling outside the top four.
We finished the regular season in fourth position, but with an increasingly high injury and travel toll, any progression past the first semi-final would mean a successful season.
Week one of the finals saw us take on a 12 man UC outfit. Despite being reduced to 10 men and conceding 3 penalties, a superb effort saw us get up 4-3 in extra-time!
The following week saw us take on Yass. Having not beaten Yass in the two previous encounters, many had us at long odds to make it to the big one. In our best performance of the year, we knocked off the boys from the bush 1-0 to advance to the first Saturday in September.
The GF saw us take on Burns FC. Burns came into the game undefeated all season and despite our best efforts remained so at full time, having beaten us 4-0. In the end an under strength Tuggies couldn’t quite get the job done against a very strong Burns FC.
Just making the Grand Final was a huge achievement in a season with many highlights on and off the field, again leaving no doubt which football team is Canberra is most social.
It was a great season and we look forward to lifting the trophy in 2016.
