OUR CLUB
A HISTORY
RICH IN
COMMUNITY.
The history of Tuggeranong United Football Club dates back to 1976, when Kambah United Soccer Club played its first season.
It catered for both junior and senior players in that district, with the seniors fielding teams in the first division. the following year, the Wanniassa Soccer Club was formed, catering for junior players from Wanniassa and its environs. In 1985, Wanniassa Soccer Club changed its name to Tuggeranong Soccer Club.
To promote the game and to provide a more cohesive structure between juniors and seniors, Kambah United combined with Tuggeranong Soccer Club in 1986, to form Tuggeranong United Soccer Club. In 1989 TUSC won its first major trophy, the Federation Cup. A knock out competition run in conjunction with the entire league, involving teams from across the top divisions.
Tuggeranong United won the ACT Premier League Championship as Kambah United in 1983 (City League) and in 1991. Tuggeranong United won the ACT Premier League Grand Final in 1991 and 1992, and runners up in 1994. Tuggeranong United won the ACT Federation Cup in 1989, 1993, 1994 and 2013.
Tuggeranong United has been a supporter of women’s football since the early days.
Tuggeranong United are renowned for Junior programs, and have produced several national representatives. From the early junior teams of Kambah and Wanniassa, TUSC was one of the region’s largest junior clubs in the 1980s and 1990s, registrations reaching well over 1300 players each season, corresponding to the growth of the Tuggeranong district. A consolidation as the district matured in the 2000s still left the club with numbers in the 800s, and that growth has begun again as the next generation moves in and the sport of football booms.
Tuggeranong United has produced a number of Socceroos, Matildas and FIFA referees, including Lindsay Wilson, Amy Duggan (nee Taylor), Carl Valeri, Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Lydia Williams, Ben Williams and Tom Rogic.
